The Lisbon Zoo announces the birth of a male White Rhinoceros, the second largest land animal.

Born on August 15, this little male weighs more than 40 kg and can be seen exploring the facility together with Andile, his mother, who was born at the Lisbon Zoo in 2014.

Classified as "Near Threatened" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, this species is facing a significant population decrease due to habitat loss and hunting for the illegal trade of its horn.

Births like this bring hope to a species whose population decrease is one of the greatest tragedies in wildlife today.
